How To Make Fewer Home Building Design Mistakes

Sometimes we get too excited to plan out dream home that we forget to remember some important details to avoid or include in or somehow skipped a step from planning a home building design to the final result. Due to this missed details and skipped steps, you might find yourself unsatisfied, underwhelmed or worse, face much more expense on repairs and what not. You might argue that you have followed every step and attended to every details needed but are you willing to risk your safety on your so called certainty? I don’t think so. When doing things as big as this, we need professionals and experts to help us in planning a home building design. We might spend a couple of hundreds or thousands of them but it is all worth it at the end of the day.

Here are some things to remember to make fewer or not make at all, home building design mistakes:

You might be surprised but the most stressful and longest step is actually the planning. No matter how small or big it is, planning is not finished in a week or a month, sometimes it even takes years until you get the final plan. In some cases, the final plan can be or is changes during the building process due to some unforeseen challenges. No need to worry about this as long as you hire a building architect to help you with every step of the way. If you want an architectural home design then the more you need that architect. As was stated earlier, the excitement of starting a project let alone your own home, can lead to this stage being rushed, which wastes time later as the your custom home designer find out what you need by trial and error and worst case scenario, important aspects of the scheme are left out of the brief.

Poor planning here can lead to issues with moisture and terrible mold growth. This can lend itself to great health concerns. Furthermore, careful attention should be given to the size of your units. Models that are too small will be underperforming and won’t cool and heat your home efficiently. You’ll come to regret this when your home is too cool in the wintertime and not cool enough during the hot summer months. Conversely those that are too large will utilize too much energy.

This must be shocking for you but let us face it, a home office or even a corner is a very important space in any home today as what the pandemic has proven. You might argue that what will be the use of a home office once we get back to normal but how sure are you that we are almost going to back to normal? A home office proves important when you have important meetings outside office hours, during weekends or the need to have a private space for very important matters to attend to. Before all this fiasco happened, many expressed that it was nice to have but not essential. Now, as many companies are adjusting to their policies to become more work-from-home friendly in the long-term, a home office has become a top priority.

Budgeting is as much as important as planning. You might have well planed the project but if you don’t make budgeting an importance there is a big chance that you will spend more than expected or worse have to stop the construction because you don’t have any money to spend. When budget is tight it is not a good idea to skimp on parts of the construction that are difficult to upgrade later, such as bricks and roof tiles, so for the time being, use cheaper options for the doors, sanitary ware and the like and replace them once your budget has recovered.

The addition of a playroom, game room or multipurpose room sounds enticing, but only plan to build a room that will actually get used. What good is a wasted home gym where the treadmill is used to hold clothes from last season? Often an unused room becomes a dumping ground to place those things that never get used. If you plan on adding a spare room, make sure that it is a room that can transition well from one type to the next. A sewing room may never get used, but a sewing room or office that also doubles as a guest room could indeed get used often.

Just like the home office, having a backyard, patio or balcony felt like a perk rather than a must-have. As gatherings with friends and family got smaller and moved outdoors, a backyard or patio is the best place to celebrate small parties with more privacy. Due to the pandemic, limiting movement, a backyard is  great space where you can still enjoy little bit if the outdoors, stretch, enjoy the sun or even start a garden for the first time thus proving more that there spaces have become more important than ever.

In the years to come, we will be considering the design of our outdoor spaces just as carefully as the décor indoors. Comfortable and durable patio furniture and easy-to-maintain landscaping ideas are now in everyone’s priority list.
